Description

The ECONOBIO program – “Green Value Chains for Biodiversity Conservation” – in Ghana aims to reconcile ecosystem preservation with local rural economic development near protected areas. The approach is based on structuring sustainable economic value chains using natural resources (honey, shea, cocoa, non-timber forest products) to improve incomes and reduce pressure on ecosystems. Phase I (2018-2021) focused on experimentation and capacity building for producers. Phase II (ECONOBIO II) aims to expand these results by consolidating value chains, community-based resource governance, and market access.

Objectives

💡 Sustainable Structuring:
Establishing sustainable economic sectors around protected areas.

✅ Capacity Building:
Training and supporting local producers to improve their practices.

🤝 Community Inclusion:
Involving communities in the management of natural resources.

📈 Capitalization:
Drawing lessons learned and disseminating them for replication in other regions.
