Description

The GP-SAEP project in the DRC is a targeted initiative aimed at overcoming the structural obstacles that hinder the widespread adoption of agroecology in the country. Implemented by Enabel, the project aligns with the global ambition to strengthen sustainable agricultural practices for smallholder farmers and agribusiness MSMEs. The program is designed to create direct synergies with existing IFAD and Enabel investment projects in the DRC, focusing on improving the resilience of food systems and integrating producers into local markets, particularly in areas with high poverty rates. The intervention approach is based on local integration and expertise in agricultural value chains.

Objectives

Agroecological Transition of Market Gardening Farms Supporting producers towards sustainable agricultural practices through training, appropriate inputs, and technical assistance. Structuring Market Gardening Actors and Supply Chains Organizing producer groups, strengthening organizational capacities, and fostering cohesion among actors in the sector. Improved Market Access for Agroecological Production Facilitating marketing, adding value to market garden products, and creating sustainable and profitable market opportunities. Sustaining and Capitalizing on Good Agroecological Practices Generating experiences and lessons learned in the field, with the potential to extend the approach to other regions in the DRC.
