Description

The Project to Support Agricultural and Rural Financial Inclusion in Burundi (PAIFA-B) aims to sustainably reduce rural poverty by addressing one of the main obstacles to Burundi's economic development: the financial exclusion of rural populations. Its approach involves simultaneously strengthening both the demand for and supply of financial services, enabling agricultural producers, cooperatives, women, youth, and micro-entrepreneurs to access tailored financing, non-financial services, and entrepreneurial support. The project also addresses the institutional environment by supporting the implementation of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy, the development of microfinance institutions, and capacity building for public and private stakeholders in the financial sector.

Objectives

💳 Strengthening rural financial inclusion:
Improving rural populations' access to formal financial services.

👩‍🌾 Supporting small-scale producers:
Financing family farms and their cooperatives.

🚀 Developing rural entrepreneurship:
Fostering the creation and growth of rural micro-enterprises, particularly those led by young people and women.

️ Modernizing the rural financial system:
Building the capacity of financial institutions and supporting the implementation of the national financial inclusion strategy.
