Description

In Rwanda, the program Young Africa Works shows sustainable systemic transformation of youth employment. The initial strategy targeted the Tourism and Hospitality sector via Hanga Ahazaza to modernize it, improve services and train young people in relevant skills. In parallel, the program undertakes an education reform, improving the quality and relevance of VET (secondary technical and vocational education) to align it with the real needs of the market (tourism, agriculture, ICT), ensuring a lasting economic impact.

Objectives

  • 300,000 decent jobs by 2030: providing 300,000 young Rwandans with access to meaningful and sustainable employment opportunities.
  • Strengthening education and skills: improving the quality of secondary education and vocational training to align young people's skills with labor market demands.
  • Developing micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs): supporting entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, and business creation in promising sectors (tourism, agriculture, digital economy).
  • Inclusion of vulnerable groups: targeting young women, rural youth, refugees, and young people with disabilities to promote social and economic inclusion.
